Accountant – Full-Time

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is seeking a qualified and experienced Accountant to support the financial operations of its Arua Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, budget preparation and monitoring, payroll management, audit coordination, bank reconciliations, and the maintenance of accurate accounting records.
Applicants should demonstrate strong accounting skills, proficiency in computerised accounting systems, confidentiality, teamwork, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidates must also be committed and practising Christians.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
A full professional accounting qualification in ACCA, CPA, or CIA.
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialisation in Accounting or Finance, or another related Accounting and Finance degree from a recognised institution of higher learning.
At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in a recognised institution.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in computerised accounting packages such as Pastel and SAP.
A high level of confidentiality in handling financial information and institutional records.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be a committed and practising Christian.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Accountant will be responsible for the following:
1. Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare financial reports and analyses to support management decision-making.
Prepare, enter, and post payment vouchers and adjustment vouchers.
Reconcile control accounts and report any anomalies to the Senior Accountant.
Support the preparation, monitoring, and control of budgets.
2. Audit and Financial Controls
Coordinate and manage internal and external audit activities.
Carry out routine bank reconciliations.
Reconcile cash balances and petty cash floats.
Maintain accurate accounting records and support effective financial controls.
3. Payroll Management
Manage payroll operations for the Arua Campus.
Ensure that payroll records are properly maintained and handled confidentially.
4. Staff Supervision and Training
Provide training and supervision to accounting personnel.
Support the effective performance of the accounts team and promote adherence to financial procedures.
5. Records and Document Management
Ensure the safe custody of documents relating to the Finance Office.
Maintain proper accounting documentation and financial records.
6. Other Responsibilities
Perform any other official duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
